Make-A-Wish® Canada’s Rising Stars Committee is thrilled to present Wish Dish: a series of virtual events to advance the mission of Make-A-Wish® Canada in raising funds to grant wishes for children with critical illnesses. Due to the restrictions on large gatherings the Rising Stars will adapt their annual fundraising event by hosting a series of virtual classes involving baking, bartending and cooking. The first class of the Wish Dish series will feature

Toronto’s very own Colin Asuncion, a finalist from Season 3 of The Great Canadian Baking Show! "I am thrilled to be doing a live bake for Make-A-Wish Canada. The work they do is truly inspiring, and I feel really lucky to be able to contribute in some small way." Asuncion said.

In addition to his work in the kitchen, Colin is a seasoned performer and theatre artist. Most recently he performed alongside July Black and Divine Brown at Koerner Hall. The Rising Stars are excited to have a notable Toronto-based celebrity to join their event and promote their effort to raise funds for Make-A-Wish kids across the country. “We are so happy that Colin agreed to participate in our virtual event it means so much to the Make-A-Wish kids and to our committee to have Colin’s support.” said Saskia Vaisey, co-chair of the Rising Stars Committee.

Due to travel restrictions all event-related wishes are still waiting to be granted. Make-A-Wish® Canada launched the #WishesAreWaiting campaign to help encourage wish kids with messages of hope and words of encouragement reminding them that their wish will be worth the wait. The campaign asks people to post a video or image to the social media account with their words of encouragement using #WishesAreWaiting or #MessagesOfHope “The Wishes Are Waiting campaign along with the Rising Stars event have really special meaning this year because we have so many kids depending on us. The planning we’ve done with the help of the Rising Stars Committee shows how dedicated we are to finding ways to raise funds and continue to grant wishes.” said Alyson Geary, Director of National Corporate Alliances for Make-A-Wish® Canada.

The first Wish Dish event will take place on Saturday July 18th, 2020 @ 5:00pm. For event details visit https://mawrisingstars.ca/signature-events/

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, serving children in every community in Canada, and in more than 50 countries worldwide.

On October 1, 2019, Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Canada joined forces, with the goal of granting the wish of every eligible child across the country. United as Make-A-Wish Canada, our mission is to provide children with life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to realize their most heartfelt wish, giving them the strength to endure their treatments and build resilience.

Together, generous donors, supporters, staff and volunteers across the country help grant more than four wishes per day, on average. Since 1983, Make-A-Wish Canada has granted over 34,000 wishes across the country, over 1,600 last year alone. For more information about Make-A-Wish Canada, visit makeawish.ca.
