Lily thrives on her wish trip

Lily is an energetic five-year-old who loves cartoons and playing with her family and her dog, Lola. Lily was adopted by her parents, Crystal and Jessica, when she was just five months old and from the beginning, they knew that their little girl would face some major health challenges. Lily has beaten all of the odds and her family is so grateful to see her thriving. One day she may need a heart transplant, and while it’s scary to think about that, Lily and her parents don’t let her condition stop them from living life to the fullest.

Crystal and Jessica decided to reach out to Make-A-Wish® after a friend, whose child had passed away, recommended referring Lily for a wish.

“We weren’t sure that we would accept a wish for Lily, but our friend said, ‘Don’t waste time. You won’t regret the experience.’”

When it came time to plan her wish, Lily’s parents were excited to be able to take her on a worry-free vacation to the most magical place in the world — Walt Disney World!

“The wish was important because we’ve watched her fight for so long, everything is work for her. Everything is a milestone. We wanted the wish to be a time to relax as a family,” says Crystal.

Lily loved all the attention she received on her trip — from the limo ride to the airport to the flight crew and captain on her WestJet flight who made her feel special throughout the journey to Florida, she enjoyed every moment of it.

The family stayed at the Give Kids the World Resort and they said that nothing could have prepared them for how special everyone at the resort made them feel. They had a completely care-free stay and felt like VIPs every day. Lily truly enjoyed everything about Walt Disney World, especially meeting her favourite characters, who took the time to come up to Lily to say hello and give her hugs. She even tried to jump into Winnie the Pooh and Tigger’s arms when she saw them!

Lily wanted to try and touch everything. She can’t see well and wanted to be close to all of the characters to see them and touch their costumes. She was mesmerized by all of the new and exciting things happening around her. The icing on the cake was when Disney cast members gifted Lily with a special tiara from Frozen’s Princess Elsa, herself.

“I would just break out in tears – it was so incredible to see her come alive. It was like we were living in a bubble as a family for a week — a perfect bubble,” says Crystal. “Since the wish, she is the happiest kid ever. It’s like she brought Disney home with her.”

Thank you to Unilux VFC for adopting Lily’s magical wish and giving her family the perfect week together in the most magical place.
