Olivia makes friends with a Minion

Olivia is a bubbly, kind, inquisitive girl, who loves painting, biking, and swimming. But her parents say that she seems like “a brand new kid” since recovering from her liver transplant — she has more energy and even started playing hockey.

Olivia absolutely loves the Despicable Me and Minions movies. When she was recovering from her surgery at SickKids, watching these movies cheered her up immediately. When asked what she wished for most in the world, Olivia told us she wanted to meet a Minion in real life. She said she would like to “play with them, fight crime with them, and hug them!” She also wanted to ask them if they really like bananas. She was excited to share the experience with her parents and her twin sister, Kate.

Olivia and her family traveled to Florida for her special meeting with a Minion at Universal Studios. When the day finally came, Olivia asked the Minion all of the important questions she had been thinking of. She couldn’t stop smiling during the visit with her favourite movie character. Olivia had a wonderful time enjoying the sight and sounds of Universal Studios. Her favourite ride was of course, Minion Mayhem, and she managed to ride it three times.

The wish trip was a special time for the whole family — they all had fun and felt carefree for the first time in a while. The wish was a chance to reconnect as a family, and leave the tough times behind them.

Special thanks to our partner, Minus Forty Technologies Corp. for adopting Olivia’s wish.

When a wish is granted, it does much more than bring joy to a child’s heart. For kids like Olivia, who are faced with life-threatening medical conditions, a wish-come-true provides them with strength to battle through darkness and gives them hope for healthier, happier days ahead.
